School
School is a students job. They are paid in knowledge. Appropriate behavior is expected. A student must come to school prepared and ready to do their personal best. Take the acquisition of knowledge seriously because state exams are the barometers of your knowledge. Students contribute to their household by doing well in school. State exam scores keep property values up in the community, so always do your best!

Management

Review all assignments due over the next week and organize your time. Don't wait until the last minute. PROCRASTINATION is your enemy!

Lay out your clothes the night before.

Food is fuel for your engine. Make sure you have your lunch ready for the next day. If it is lunch money, make sure it is in your backpack or wallet. If it is a sack lunch, make sure you prepare it the night before so it is ready to grab in the morning. You are old enough to make your own lunch. If your parents are making it for you, be grateful!

Pack your backpack the night before and place it by the door. Make sure everything is packed. Did you take the paper you typed out of the printer? Did you place your main folder in your backpack? Did you remember your agenda? If everything is packed and layed out then you don't have to race around in the morning trying to get everything together.

Grades
The district policy states that assessment must be at least 65% of the students grade.
Assessment is a wide term that includes exams, but is not limited to them.

Standards Portfolio

There are numerous standards we must cover during the year. You will be tested by the state on these standards at the end of your 8th grade year. Creating a portfolio will give you a study guide for the test. You are required to have a 1/2 inch to 1 inch binder for your portfolio. Protection sheets for your pages are optional. Vocabulary will be the first element of each standard. I will do a vocabulary check three to four days after we start the standard. You will take notes that will give you prompts for the paragraphs for each essay. You will be required to provide examples for each paragraph. I will check your essay at the end of each standard. At the end of the school year I will grade your entire portfolio. If you do not keep up with your portfolio throughout the year you will be setting yourself up for a lower grade at the end of the year.

Extra Credit

Extra Credit may be offered throughout the year but it is not a guarantee. I do not give extra credit because you don't like your grade. If you do your work throughout the year you shouldn't need it.

Dance Days

  • There are three dance days a year and you are expected to participate and have fun. I join in as well.

  • You will learn dances that are part of the cultures we study.

If you ever have any questions or need help feel free to talk to me before school, after school,  or e-mail me. If you don’t ask, I can’t help.
